2023.06.02 03:29 woodrow7021 Part 2: Costco history remembered
Part Two: Costco History Remembered
The Costco you know today is light years different from it’s early days when it comes to merchandising. The first Costco was VERY much a warehouse with low light, lots of walls in strange places, and a lot of product jammed into every available spot. Most manufacturers believed that Costco was just a low quality discounter selling “seconds” (products that weren’t first quality), and so they didn’t want to sell to Costco because they felt it would diminish their brand, or it would violate their exclusivity agreements with other retailers.
To combat this, the founders of Costco made sure there was a huge sign behind the membership desk proclaiming the 100% return guarantee on products sold. It sent a clear message that Costco was not a junk dealer, and that did help a few vendors to agree to sell to Costco. Those first brave companies were rewarded with tremendous loyalty in their relationship with Costco, and the bond stayed strong despite the otherwise fickle world of wholesale/ retail.
So, what was selling, and what eventually went away?
1) several categories were much more prominent in the early days. Automotive aisles had engine hoists, ramps, air tools, jack stands, and more. The tool aisles were loaded with inexpensive tools made by Allied, and it was very similar to Harbor Freight. There were multiple aisles year round of what is often called knock-down furniture. O’Sullivan was the brand name, and the member had to assemble it like an IKEA product. The boxes were enormously heavy, but Costco sold a gazillion bookcases that way. As Costco grew, the realization that it had to focus on reaching higher levels of quality caused it to switch to better furniture brought in seasonally, and as fewer people were working on their cars, the sales diminished on those items to a level requiring the auto aisles to be greatly reduced to mostly oil and windshield wipers.
Tools were another issue. Home Depot, Lowe’s, and some local places like Eagle ( that later got bought by Lowe’s) all monopolized the big brands like Dewalt, and those tool companies believed that if they sold to Costco, their relationship with the hardware stores would suffer significantly. To this day, Costco still struggles to find quality tools to sell.
2) some categories were HOT! Cameras and film were tremendous sellers. Costco usually has 10+ SKUs of cameras, and had a whole pallet island of film. Kodak film, Fuji Film, and Polaroid film was in almost every member’s cart. Unfortunately, Polaroid film was also in the top ten of stolen items! Organized groups would swoop in, fill bags/ pockets with it, then dash out the door. Undercover employees could usually be found staking out that section. All this went away when phones started taking the place of cameras.
3) office supplies had multiple aisles of product. Copy paper sold out quickly (even today, Costco keeps it’s wholesale title by selling truckloads of it to school districts, etc.). Computer paper was a must have—-remember the stuff that had little holes on each side so a gear could pull it through a printer? “Green bar” paper sold like crazy. Office chairs had 6 or more styles, and members would race each other down the aisles in them if they weren’t cabled to the steel. The rise of what came to be known as Category Killers lead to the office department’s reduction to just an aisle. Office Depot, Office Max, etc all could match or undercut Costco on the best sellers by selling all the other items that they carried at a higher mark-up to offset the loss leader.
4) I always felt bad for the bread and potato chip vendors. In the early days, they would be in the aisles for hours before opening because they had to take two retail size packages and use tape guns to create a two-pack of everything. Their companies in the early days refused to believe that customers would be crazy enough to buy huge bags of chips or super long loaves of bread, so for several years they made their route drivers lives miserable. Today, when I see what a supermarket calls “ family size” for a bag of chips, I can only laugh—it looks like an individual serving size compared to Costco! Also, the route drivers LOVE Costco, because it’s typically just one stop and they’re done until they have to come back and restock/ face the product later in the afternoon
5)So very much of Costco in the early days was focused on the commercial size products. Many of the canned food items came only in #10 cans ( the big ones that are almost the size of a bowling ball). There was no option for a smaller can. Eventually, as the membership grew to be dominated by retail shoppers, Costco started the separate Business Center division, and those allowed Costco to have the space for things like 6 packs of small cans instead.
6) Bonus memory! Clothing in the early days was often described as dowdy, old lady clothing that no one would want except at Halloween. Certainly it wasn’t THAT bad, but almost no clothing vendors would sell to Costco directly, so most was bought from middle men selling what no one else wanted. Worse, Costco had huge, ugly clothing racks made from 2x4s and pipe to display the clothes, so it was all displayed like you’d see in your closet. Shoulder view only! Costco put the clothes on a table eventually, and the sales skyrocketed. With the shear volume of people picking through them, it is very, very labor intensive to keep the tables looking clean, neat, and straight, but it’s worth it. The vendors soon saw the incredible sales Costco was doing, and now most sell direct. A few (Harley Davidson apparel for example) are still hold-outs.
Kinda long post, but I hope you enjoyed it enough for me to do more.

2023.06.02 02:47 kauan1983 The conspiracy lore and the dynamic between the government agencies in Stranger Things
| Something that i am extremely fascinated about in Stranger Things is the government conspiracy angle of the series, and over the seasons, i felt that the writing started to give us less details about how the government agencies work in this universe. Also, many details of the lore are still unresolved, and i fear some of them might not be resolved in S5, so I decided to make an analysis of everything that involves the government in the show to create my own version of the timeline of the events involving the U.S. government, and gather information to hypothesize events that may have happened offscreen, the occupations of some characters within the government and what agencies are involved with everything that has happened in the show since S1. I hope you guys enjoy the read! PROJECT MKULTRA - In 1953, The MKUltra program was officially sanctioned by the CIA, a multimillion-dollar initiative intended to develop mind control techniques. The experiments would be conducted in many hospitals, prisons and colleges across the U.S. Hawkins National Laboratory was one of many facilities in the U.S. where MKUltra was being conducted - Dr. Martin Brenner was the director of CIA operations at this laboratory. - MKUltra is a real CIA-sanctioned research that was officially halted in 1973. And it was the basis for a science-based horror in the show's lore. But the Duffers never wanted to really dive into it, as the story they wanted to tell was mainly inspired by the Montauk Project and would focus in children with super powers and other dimensions. There is a little talk about it in the official behind the scenes companion Worlds Turned Upside Down: I wouldn't say we had done necessarily a deep dive into it. It was more a surface glance of seeing what they were up to and then using it as an excuse to have science-based horror in our narrative. — Ross Duffer - The presence of the MKUltra in the lore is what canonically establishes the CIA as the bad men we see in S1 and briefly in S2. The agency is only mentioned once in the show when Hopper and Powell are investigating documents about the HNL/MKUltra, but we can confirm that the CIA was also responsible for funding Brenner's program as in the Worlds Turned Upside Down book we can see government cards with a "Central Intelligence Agency Clandestine Ops" badge in it. PROJECT INDIGO - Doctor Brenner's program. It's the main government project of Stranger Things, and although never mentioned in the show, the name of the program was supposed to be "INDIGO" which was also the proposed name of the show as stated by the Duffers in their MasterClass: So we just came up with a bunch of ideas. We had The Keep, we had INDIGO which was gonna be the name of the government program, and amidst that we had Stranger Things. — Ross Duffer It's unclear if the Duffers kept the name as it was never mentioned in the show, but the name is mentioned in the Suspicious Minds book, which was supervised by one of the show's writers - Paul Dichter. Project Indigo is basically the Hawkins equivalent of the Montauk Project. While the MKUltra was the Duffers' basis for a science-based horror in the lore, INDIGO is where the most crazy, cutting-edge developments in science come in. The Duffers had the desire to play with the "sandbox" of elements that the Montauk conspiracy could offer. In the conspiracy, there were talks about children with psychic/psionic powers (which became the Numbers 001 to 018), other dimensions (like the Upside Down, Dimension X and the Hellscape), alien contact, monsters being unleashed (Demogorgon/DX entities) and even time travel, which is something that was originally part of the ST mythology as we can see in the document below: The Montauk Pitch by the Duffer Brothers THE PROGRAM STARTS - As we learned in S4, the beginning of the program happens in 1959, and is a result of Dr. Brenner discovering a boy with extraordinary psychic abilities, Henry, after his mother contacts him in the hopes of sending him to a facility where he would be locked away and fixed. Henry, knowing what his mother was planning, decided to kill his whole family, but would eventually fall into a coma due to not knowing his limits while using his psychic powers. - Brenner knew what the boy did and also what he was capable of, and wanted to not just study but also control him. After the Creel House murders, Brenner would take Henry to the lab and the CIA would cover up anything that could compromise their operation. Victor Creel, the only survivor of the events in the house was declared legally insane, the records of what Victor claimed to have occurred in his house were sealed. - Brenner eventually sold to the CIA a separate program that he planned to start, a program that would study Henry Creel who was presented to the government as a potential weapon against the Soviets as stated by Matt Duffer in this interview by Deadline. He knew what this kid did and also what he was capable of when he was young. Brenner’s going, how can I mold this character, but not just into a weapon? That’s really how he sold it to the government, but for him as a scientist, it’s like, what other worlds can this kid show me about how our universe works? — Matt Duffer - As a scientist, Brenner had the desire to not only mold Henry into a weapon but also use him as a means to reach other worlds/dimensions and understand how the universe works. That makes me think that, at the time, Brenner expected Henry to be able to do what he would later discover only Eleven could do, which was the capablity of opening a rift or tear in time-space via psychic energy. - At some point, I would guess in late 1959 - early 1960s, an unknown event led Brenner to pacify Henry's abilities via Soteria. After that, Brenner would decide to evolve his program, replicating Henry's powers in other kids. This is something Matt Duffer confirmed that S5 will explore, It’s something we will get into in Season 5. What happened to that program once Henry became involved and how Brenner evolved it into including multiple kids. We’re going to go back and see some of that in Season 5. How Brenner tried to replicate Henry's abilities is unclear, but there's something mentioned in the Montauk bible that caught my attention and could be a brief explanation of how these preternatural abilities arise in some individuals: ELEVEN was an orphan with telekinesis. her preternatural abilities have been linked to mutations caused by her mothers drug use. In this version of the Eleven's backstory, the Duffers had not yet conceived El's mother being Terry Ives, the MKUltra involvement in the lore, and El's abilities being the result of experiments on her mother. Instead, we have genetic mutations caused by drug use. If there's any chance this is an explanation to how some individuals are born with psychic abilities, i suspect that Brenner knew that drugs had the potential to cause such mutations and that via experiments and training, he would unlock these supernatural psychic abilities. Knowing that, Brenner would use the MKUltra (which mainly involved psychedelic drugs) as a means to new supernatural kids to be born, just like it happened to Eleven. Virginia Creel's backstory In episode 7, Henry mentions that his parents did "such awful things." and that he "held up a mirror" to show them who they really were, but we never got to see what Henry used against his mother. Whatever awful thing she did, is still a mystery in the show. Also, Virginia somehow knew that Henry had supernatural abilities, so i think it's plausible to assume that, perhaps, Virginia knew it because of something dark in her past, something she believed resulted in her son being born with supernatural abilities and becoming a "broken" kid. The drug element that i mentioned before could also play a role in the origin of Henry's powers and whatever these dark memories of Virginia are. In S4E7 script, we can see that the whole part where Virginia suspects Henry is the responsible for the strange happenings in the house and contacts Brenner to lock her son away is missing. Meaning the writers later decided to add more layers to this backstory that may be explored in S5. The Duffer Brothers have confirmed in interviews that S5 will explore more of Henry's prequel story, and it was recently revealed in an article from BBC that the 'The First Shadow' stage play influences S5, so i'm hoping this means we'll see more of the Creels, specially Virginia. They were able to adjust some of the "things in the play" and said that working on it had given them ideas for the upcoming season five. Matt Duffer added: "Some of the mythology stuff is a little bit trickier, but like Ross said, it's been fun to have the play influence the show, and the show influenced the play, 1960's - THE PROGRAM EVOLVES - The evolution of Brenner's program logically took place during the 1960s, and some of that was already hinted in S2 when we discover that Terry had documents about people she believed were like her daughter. In some of those documents we get to see that Kali was abducted in London, a Cleveland teen girl who was seemingly abducted in Indiana, and a newborn boy was taken from a hospital. The baby was in the care of a nurse who was found dead in her home. - in 1969, Ray Carroll started working at HNL as an orderly. 1970's - At some point in the early 70's, Terry Ives got involved with MKUltra. (In the Suspicious Minds book, we learn that Terry was involved with MKUltra in 1969 but i'm not considering any information from the book due to the huge amount of inconsistencies.) - After Brenner kidnapped Eleven in 1971, the BreneHNL would face charges and lawsuits from Terry Ives but they were denied due to lack of evidence. - In 1973, the MKUltra was officially halted. - In 1974, Terry would try to take Eleven from the laboratory. Brenner ordered Terry to undergo an eletroshock therapy, ordering Ray Carroll to set the voltage up to 450 and then proceeded to electrocute her until her brain was damaged. - In 1979, One succeeded in having El "free" him by removing the Soteria from him. Regaining his psychic abilities, Henry kills all the Indigo numbers except for Eleven who would eventually banish him out of our dimension. After the attack, El falls into a coma, and Brenner doesn't dare bring another number to the lab. Instead, Brenner focuses the experiments on Eleven, who has repressed not only her memories of the past events but also her powers after waking up from her coma. Brenner knew that Eleven's abilities weren't lost but needed a "spark" to be restored. 1983 - Brenner believed that One was somewhere out there, "hiding in the darkness", and in 1983, after Eleven's powers were restored, Brenner would eventually use her abilities to find him. - In one experiment, El hears a strange sound that would get Brenner's attention. Despite El getting scared and the experiment being aborted, Brenner would repeat the experiment with the intention of making "contact". - On the night of november 6, 1983, El makes psychic contact with the Demogorgon in the Void, inadvertentely creating TUD, opening the mothergate and unleashing the monster. She eventually escaped the HNL that night. - On the next day, Brenner and the CIA receive a visit from agents that according to the S1E1 script were NSA. CIA and NSA agents would eventually work together to find Eleven and cover up anything that would compromise the secrecy of their clandestine operation. - Brenner and his team of agents along with MPs would go to the Hawkins Middle School in order to find Eleven after Hopper revealed her location. For their surprise, the Demogorgon appears in the school, distracting the agents and MPs, allowing the kids to run away from the CIA with Eleven. Brenner is brutally attacked by the Demogorgon, but survives the attack. - After the events in the school, we see hopper entering a black sedan with CIA agents. - CIA agents go to the Wheelers House searching for Eleven. This is the last time we see Brenner's men in the show. In the next season, the HNL would have a new director and a new staff. - In a clipping at Hawkins Police Station, there's information on the aftermath of the events in november, 1983, where we learn that Joyce Byers publicy alleged that Will was the subject of a secret government program. Joyce's allegation comes amidst the investigation into the past allegations of the lab's involvement with mind control experiments (MKUltra). - As to where Brenner and his entire staff were after the events in november, it is unknown, but i suspect Owens knew about what happened to them as in S2 he seems to be certain that Brenner's men were gone. The point is, mistakes have been made. Yes. Abundant mistakes, but, the men involved with those mistakes, the ones responsible for what happened to your brother and Miss Holland's death, they're gone. They're gone, and for better for worse, i'm the schmuck they brought in to make things better. — Sam Owens I've come to suspect that after the events of November '83, when the entire HNL staff was replaced, everything documented/recorded about the CIA's clandestine operations was securely locked away by CIA or DOE operatives, likely in the decommissioned Nevada Silo. (One alternate possibility is that those documents and recordings were stored in the Silo after the HNL was closed in december, 1984) Something that I find interesting is that both the Silo Lab and Owens' residence are located in Nevada, and in S4E5, when Eleven is taken to the Silo, originally the titles "Ruth, Nevada" appeared on the screen, that was later removed, but it implies that both the Silo and Owens' residence were close. This leads me to suspect that long before Owens and Brenner conceived of the NINA program, Owens already knew about the abandoned Silo in Nevada and decided to used it to store every TOP-SECRET documents/recordings of the CIA operations at HNL. https://preview.redd.it/qjidk3560i3b1.png?width=1334&format=png&auto=webp&v=enabled&s=287916d61b1b71b59d7b8c7ed3a7355f2b073f44 One interesting detail is that the idea of the government securely locking away videotapes is something the Duffers planned for their original Montauk conception, which most of it was a prototype for what we've seen in Stranger Things. In The Montauk Experiment, the O.S.S. would securely lock away film cannisters with recordings of everything that happened in Camp Hero after the experiments ended in a blood-soaked event. Details in the document below: The logline for 'The Montauk Experiment' DOCTOR SAM OWENS' POSITION IN THE U.S. GOVERNMENT - Sam Owens is a high-ranking member within U.S. Department of Energy as mentioned in the first official description of his character. Sometime between late 1983 - early 1984 he would be brought to HNL on a ‘clean-up’ assignment, tasked with containing the mess left by the CIA in 1983 and making things better. - As I previously mentioned, Owens may have been responsible for locking away all the documented CIA experimentation at HNL, and he also may have known the whereabouts of Brenner and other scientists and CIA operatives who worked with him all along. I would even assume that Owens and Brenner may have been in contact all this time. - During his time as director of the operations at HNL, Owens was involved in Will's treatment and in containing the spread of TUD. - In November 1984, during the Demodogs invasion, Owens met Eleven, who eventually closed the gate, ending TUD invasion. - A month later, the operations at HNL were officially shut down and the lab was closed after the release of the tape recording Owens' "confession", and Owens decided to help Eleven have a normal life under Hopper's care, giving him a forged birth certificate, and recommending Hopper to "let things cool off" for a year. This, of course, was done without the knowledge of the U.S. government. FACTONS WITHIN THE U.S. GOVERNMENT After the events os S2, in addition to the CIA Clandestine Ops and the DOE, other different agencies were introduced in the story: - US Army/Pentagon that briefly appears at the end of s3 (although we've seen the Military Police in the previous seasons which is a branch of the Army), and would be an antagonist faction in S4. - FBI agents who are presented as friends of Owens and allied to our main characters in S4. SULLIVAN'S FACTION - At some point after the HNL was closed, Doctor Owens, in addition to his high-ranking position in the DOE, also gained some position within the U.S. Army/Pentagon, probably tasked with monitoring and maintaining security in Hawkins after the lab was closed and the military presence left town. Lieutenant Colonel Jack Sullivan was involved in this, and it's possible he and Owens worked together. - An interesting detail is that the arm patch on Lt. Colonel Sullivan's uniform confirms that he's an United States Army Criminal Investigation Division operative, hence his associaton with the Pentagon. - At some point (i assume 1985), rumors about Eleven being alive and receiving help from someone within the U.S. government began to surface within the Pentagon, this would affect Owens' reputation. - It's also worth mentioning that in S4E6, Sullivan seems to imply that he knew or at least believed Brenner was alive. Explanation two, Dr. Brenner's special little pet has gone rogue again and he and his lackeys are now seeking to cover it up. Perhaps in the hopes of selling their pet to the Soviets. — Lt. Colonel Sullivan There's also this interview with Sherman Augustus where the interviewer asks him if Sullivan knows that Brenner is still alive, and Sherman's answer implies that Brenner being alive is something that wouldn't surprise Sullivan, Maybe because it was rumored within the Pentagon too. Basically, there's nothing that Sullivan doesn't know or expect about what's been happening in Hawkins and within the government since the events of S1. I'm pretty sure he knows that there's certain elements... because he says in the dialogue "there's rumors that she's getting help from someone on the inside". So there is nothing that he is not, you know, equating in that situation, he's not surprised. Whatever it is, you have to be a really strong and dynamic individual to be able to go in and try to kick E.T in the butt. — Sherman Augustus - In July 1985, Owens would find out about a foreign government invasion in Hawkins, and would go to Hawkins with Army/Pentagon forces to deal with the invasion, only to find an empty Soviet bunker. OWENS' FACTION - After the events in July, Owens got fired from his position in the miitary for failing his assignment to monitor security at Hawkins, i believe the previously mentioned rumors about him may also have played a role in his dismissal. - Owens, knowing that El had lost her powers, feared a further re-emergence of the TUD, which led him to begin developing a means to restore her abilities and bring them back stronger than before. - Owens would ally with Brenner to develop a way to restore Eleven's abilities, and Brenner convinced Owens that the only way to do so was via a process of re-experiencing her repressed memories in a program that they would later call NINA. It's unclear when Brenner and Owens' alliance started, but i personally believe they knew each other for longer than we initially thought, and shortly after the July events, Owens' looked for Brenner's help in order to develop a means to restore El's powers. - Despite being fired from his position in the military, Owens was still a DOE member and also had connections to the FBI (Ellen Stinson and other agents), and he used his power to clandestinely provide Brenner with the necessary resources to establish the NINA Project. For the program to be sanctioned, he had to compromise his principles, and risk his life and that of his family. Something worth noting is that in the episode 7 script, the dialogue where Owens expresses his disappointment with NINA's progress is a little different: I've given you all the resources you've asked for, i've given you your people, i've compromised my principles, i've risked my life, my family's life, all because you assured me this would work. That this was the only way. — Sam Owens By "i've given you your people" we can confirm that Owens gave to Brenner his old HNL staff, who as we saw in S4E8, were loyal to him. And we can also confirm by Sam's words that he had to give Brenner resources, meaning, wherever Brenner was after the events oF S1, he was left with no resources and access to his old staff. - Owens and Brenner would establish NINA in the same abandoned Silo in Nevada where Owens presumably locked away all the video tapes and documents from HNL. THE FACTION CONFLICT - After Owens' dismissal, Sullivan apparently became the responsible for monitoring Hawkins and maintaining the security in the town. - In March 1986, a supernatural murder in Hawkins comes to Sullivan's attention, and after an autopsy is performed by Army medical doctors, Sullivan concludes that the murder was done remotely, which tied in with the rumors about Eleven being alive and getting help from someone within the U.S. government who he, and probably other operatives within the Pentagon believed was Sam Owens. - Upon that conclusion, Sullivan would begin a clandestine military operation in order to investigate Eleven's whereabouts, and this leads him to Owens. - Something worth noting is that when we are first introduced to Sullivan, he arrives in Indiana in an U.S. Army helicopter to investigate the circumstances of an unusual murder, but when he begins his operation to hunt down Eleven, he goes to Ruth, Nevada in an unmarked black helicopter, alluding to the fact that this is a clandestine military operation: Sullivan arrives in Indiana Sullivan leaves Owens' residence in Nevada Something interesting about the scene where Sullivan visits Owens that adds some information on what the U.S. government has been up to is the dialogue between Sullivan and Owens from this audition tape which is a bit different from the dialogue from the show: There were no signs of an attacker. No bruises, no signs of any struggle. It's as if her attacker was a ghost. — Lt. Colonel SullivanSo what is this, really? I mean, why are you here? all of the sudden you want to help again? — Sam Owens Dr. Owens, 30 civilians died last year, a foreign government invaded our country all under your watch. There had to be consequences, you've got to understand that — Lt. Colonel Sullivan Owens' question implies that Sullivan has been helping him at some point, probably in monitoring Hawkins like a mentioned before, which would explain how he knew so much about what has happened there all this years. And Sullivan's response implies that after Owens got fired, it became his responsability to maintain security in Hawkins, which is why he was there, asking Owens Eleven's whereabouts. - Owens refuses to tell Sullivan Eleven's whereabouts, and Jack decides to do things "the hard way", taking multiple items from Owens' house in order to investigate everything Sam has done and everyone he has spoken to in 1985 and luckily, be able to find where Eleven is. - Owens knew that the former Indigo test subject One was back when he saw pictures of Chrissy's body, and via a DOE intranet, he requests the immediate acceleration of NINA. He makes it clear that their secret program and facility were compromised and that the Pentagon was involved. And for the security of their program, Owens implements a communication lockdown. - Owens uses his FBI connections to have agents help him find Eleven, maintain the secrecy of the operation and protect people closely associated with Eleven who could be found by Sullivan. Some of those agents are Ellen Stinson, who seems to be Owens' right hand, Agent Harmon, and Agent Wallace. - In the meantime, Sullivan/the Pentagon was able to find out that Owens moved Eleven to Lenora Hills, CA, and would eventually send a group of agents/soldiers to find her. - After finding Eleven with a group of agents and convicing her to go with him in order to get her powers back, Owens takes El to the Silo Lab while Agents Harmon and Wallace would stay with Mike, Jonathan and Will to protect them, and Agent Stinson would be closely monitoring Hawkins with 2 more agents. - Sullivan, after a shootout in the Byers' house takes Agent Wallace to a black site to torture him in order to find out where Eleven was, and after a long time of torture, Wallace gave away Eleven's location. - After NINA succeeded in restoring Eleven's abilities, Owens, believing she was ready, would call Stinson to have her prepare the transit from Nevada to Hawkins, Indiana through her connections at Nellis. - Brenner would eventually betray Owens and considered killing him in order to stop Eleven from leaving the Silo Lab. After the conflict between Owens and Brenner, the Pentagon finally arrives at the location revealed by Agent Wallace and a conflict between the U.S army and the MP soldiers resulted in the death of Brenner, his men and all the scientists in the Silo Lab, except Owens. - Eleven escapes the Pentagon with her friends, and we see Sullivan and some of his soldiers for the last time in S4, in the Nevada desert. Episodes 8 and 9 made it clear that El still needs to hide and Sullivan's faction is still after her. It's worth mentioning that Sullivan was the only villain in ST4 not to be killed or at least injured, so it's almost certain that this guy will be back in ST5 to kick E.T's ass. Specially know that a full-scale TUD invasion is about the happen in Hawkins. POSSIBILITIES FOR S5: Sullivan investigates the video tapes in the silo lab S4 ended without us knowing what happened to Owens and Sullivan after eleven escaped, but we do know that both characters are in the Silo Lab and that Sullivan now has access to a vast amount of video tapes that he would certainly investigate and this would create many possibilities for the Pentagon's role in S5. Sullivan's Mission in Hawkins Sullivan is still responsible for monitoring Hawkins, and at some point he will probably learn about what is happening in the town (which is also where El is hiding now), possibly via the military presence in Hawkins that we saw in the ST4 epilogue. Something that caught my attention was the presence of a Research Lab vehicle on the set of downtown Hawkins, this vehicle never appeared in the show, and it was not mentioned in the script of episode 9. But it makes me think that at the end of S4, the Military is not just trying to help Hawkins citizen after this "federal disaster", but also researching into TUD, which perhaps is an operation led by Sullivan? let me know what you guys think. S1 parallels If we have Sullivan in Hawkins in S5, we most certainly will get more Government vs Eleven scenes, which would parallel Brenner and the CIA in S1. I particularly believe that S5 will have many parallels with what the Duffers planned for the first season of Montauk, ACT THREE (episodes 7-8) will climax with characters working together to outsmart the military, venture into this alternate dimension, save Will, and, hopefully, close this "tear" once and for all. Doctor Owens in 1959 flashbacks Something I found extremely suspicious is that in S4, Owens seemed to know more than we initially thought. He's claimed three victims so far, and when i saw the eyes, i knew... i knew that was him. He was him. He was sending us a message, letting us know he's back. This sentence from Owens confirms that he somehow knew Henry's killing manner. It's plausible to assume that Owens learned about Henry and the other Indigo Numbers after being brought to the lab to "make things better". But I personally believe that there must be a greater reason why he was brought to HNL after S1, I believe Owens was already aware of the clandestine operations that had been happening in the HNL for years (at least some of it) and had known Dr. Brenner since the 1950's. I would even consider the possibility that Owens has been involved in clandestine government operations in the past and that somehow led him to find out about the HNL and Brenner's program. In this interview by The Wrap, Ross Duffer's words about Brenner and Owens' alliance caught my attention because the way he puts it felt like Owens has known Brenner for longer than we think. Once that first kill with Chrissy happens, then their fears are realized and that’s what jump starts their whole storyline. I mean, that is why Owens is collaborating with Brenner, a man he also does not like. He respects him, but despises the man, because he also knows he’s the key to stopping One, to stopping Vecna. By my suspicion, i came up with the theory/fanfic that Owens could have worked with Brenner in the 50's and was aware of what happened in the Creel House in '59. Maybe he even met young Henry and interacted with him after he woke up from his coma. If there's any chance that i'm right about it, i would imagine the Owens and Henry interactions would parallel the scenes with Owens and Will in S2. Stinson becomes the new Owens / Her alliance with the adults Agent Stinson was apparently Owens' right hand in S4 and also the leader among the agents of Owens' faction, being involved in the operations in Nevada, Hawkins and even being responsible for driving Hopper and Joyce to Hawkins. Imo, Stinson has the potential to become the "new Owens"/Main government operative to help our main characters while Owens is MIA. She could also send some agents to investigate what happened to Owens. I have a personal theory that Stinson will join the adults in S5 and help them on a mission to outsmart the military. And i think the "knowing nod" between Hop and Stinson in S4E9 might be a hint of a possible team up for S5. submitted by kauan1983 to StrangerThings [link] [comments] |
2023.06.02 02:40 kauan1983 The conspiracy lore and the dynamic between the government agencies in Stranger Things
| Something that i am extremely fascinated about in Stranger Things is the government conspiracy angle of the series, and over the seasons, i felt that the writing started to give us less details about how the government agencies work in this universe. Also, many details of the lore are still unresolved, and i fear some of them might not be resolved in S5, so I decided to make an analysis of everything that involves the government in the show to create my own version of the timeline of the events involving the U.S. government and gather information to hypothesize events that may have happened offscreen, the occupations of some characters within the government and what agencies are involved with everything that has happened in the show since S1. I hope you guys enjoy the read! PROJECT MKULTRA - In 1953, The MKUltra program was officially sanctioned by the CIA, a multimillion-dollar initiative intended to develop mind control techniques. the experiments would be conducted in many hospitals, prisons and colleges across the US. Hawkins National Laboratory was one of many facilities in the U.S where MKUltra was being conducted - Dr. Victor Creel, the only survivor of the events in the house was declared legally insane, and the records of what Victor claimed to have occurred in his house were sealed. This is something Matt Duffer confirmed that S5 will explore:
It’s something we will get into in Season 5. What happened to that program once Henry became involved and how Brenner evolved it into including multiple kids. We’re going to go back and see some of that in Season 5. — Matt Duffer How Brenner tried to replicate Henry's abilities is unclear, but there's something mentioned in the Montauk bible that caught my attention and could be a brief explanation of how these preternatural abilities arise in some individuals: ELEVEN was an orphan with telekinesis. her preternatural abilities have been linked to mutations caused by her mothers drug use. (In the Suspicious Minds book, we learn that Terry was involved with MKUltra in 1969 but i'm not considering any information from the book due to the huge amount of inconsistencies.) - After Brenner kidnapped Eleven in 1971, the HNL would face charges and lawsuits from Terry Ives but they were denied due to lack of evidence. This leads me to suspect that long before Owens and Brenner conceived of the NINA program, Owens already knew about the abandoned Silo in Nevada and decided to used it to store every TOP-SECRET documents/recordings of the CIA operations at HNL: https://preview.redd.it/xh9e7lxqye3b1.png?width=1334&format=png&auto=webp&v=enabled&s=eafda108e43adbb8ff115ac586a13add1f1e8442 One interesting detail is that the idea of the government securely locking away videotapes is something the Duffers planned for their original Montauk conception, which most of it was a prototype for what we've seen in Stranger Things. Sometime between late 1983 and early 1984 he would be brought to HNL on a ‘clean-up’ assignment, tasked with containing the mess left by the CIA in 1983 and making things better. — Sherman Augustus - In July 1985, Owens would find out about a foreign government invasion in Hawkins, and would go to Hawkins accompanied by Army/Pentagon forces to deal with the invasion, only to find an empty Soviet bunker. OWENS' FACTION - After the events in July, Owens got fired from his position in the miitary for failing his assignment to monitor security at Hawkins, i believe the previously mentioned rumors about him may also have played a role in his dismissal. - Owens, knowing that El had lost her powers, feared a further re-emergence of the TUD, which led him to begin developing ways to restore her abilities. Army helicopter to investigate the circumstances of an unusual murder, but when he begins his operation to hunt down Eleven, he goes to Ruth, Nevada in an unmarked black helicopter, alluding to the fact that this is a clandestine military operation: Sullivan arrives in Indiana Sullivan leaves Owens' residence in Ruth, Nevada Something interesting about the scene where Sullivan visits Owens that adds some information on what the U.S. government has been up to is the dialogue between Sullivan and Owens from this audition tape which is a bit different from the dialogue in the show, There were no signs of an attacker. No bruises, no signs of any struggle. It's as if her attacker was a ghost. — Lt. Colonel Sullivan So what is this, really? - Owens knew that the former Indigo test subject One was back, and via a DOE intranet, he requests the immediate acceleration of NINA. POSSIBILITIES FOR S5: Sullivan investigates the video tapes in the silo lab S4 ended without us knowing what happened to Owens and Sullivan after eleven escaped, but we do know that both characters are in the Silo Lab and that Sullivan now has access to a vast amount of video tapes that he would certainly investigate and this would create several different possibilities for the Pentagon's role in S5. Sullivan's Mission in Hawkins Sullivan is still responsible for monitoring Hawkins, and he will likely learn about what is happening in the town (which is also where El is hiding now), possibly through the military presence in Hawkins that we saw in the ST4 epilogue. Something that caught my attention was the presence of a Research Lab vehicle on the set of down town hawkins, this vehicle never appeared in the show, and it was not mentioned in the script of episode 9. I particularly believe that S5 will have many parallels with what the Duffers planned for the first season of Montauk: ACT THREE (episodes 7-8) will climax with characters working together to outsmart the military, venture into this alternate dimension, save Will, and, hopefully, close this "tear" once and for all. I would even consider the possibility that Owens has been involved in clandestine government operations in the past and that somehow led him to find out about the HNL and Brenner's program. In this interview by The Wrap, Ross Duffer's words about Brenner and Owens' alliance caught my attention because the way he puts it felt like Owens has known Brenner for much longer than we think. She could also send some agents to investigate what happened to Owens. I have a personal theory that Stinson will join the adults in S5 and help them on a mission to outsmart the military. And i think the "knowing nod" between Hop and Stinson in S4E9 might be a hint of a possible team up for S5. submitted by kauan1983 to HawkinsAVclub [link] [comments] |
2023.06.02 02:30 InfamousEfficiency46 Did I get cheated by the mechanic?
I went this auto repair shop in Columbus Indiana. They do wheel alignments. Now wheel alignments are not done on cars with poor suspension. My car clunks pretty bad, and also it pull in a certain direction as well. I pretty much know I have bad ball joints.
The mechanic told me that they would diagnose it and not charge me. They did not do that however. They did the wheel alignment and then charged me 100$.
I asked them and they said we did the alignment on it and the car was fine. The parts were bad and they did it anyway. They did it in 15 mins and handed the car back. I know that wheel alignments take much longer than that.
What should I do?

2023.06.02 02:16 Boelthor "Even the greatest justice must start from somewhere small." (Penance Guide)
Penance is a 6* DPS Defender, and on top of that
she's the 6* equivalent of one of my longtime favorite operators so I'm contractually obligated to write a guide for her. And she's also an operator who demands that you use her in a certain way; while doing so isn't difficult it can trip you up if you aren't conscious of this, so a guide will hopefully make it easy to avoid those pitfalls.
Basic Information
Penance is a 6* Juggernaut Defender, but the operator she's most similar to is
Estelle--both of them are self-sufficient operators that actively profit from having more enemies. In fact, Penance's signature Barrier mechanic provides so much self-sustain that she can often go through an entire stage without losing even a single HP. As for her offense, she's the first operator to make good general use of recoil damage, and her direct damage output is nothing to scoff at either.
Offensive Stats
Penance has high Attack, a 1.6 second attack interval, okay dps, and a standard 1x2 range. Most of Penance's offense comes from her talents and skills, but high Attack means her basic attacks don't have many problems with armor.
Defensive Stats
Penance has extremely high HP, high Defense, 10 Res, and 3 block. When she was released Penance had the highest base HP of any operator, and her overall bulk is among the highest in the game.
Cost and Trust
Penance costs a massive 36 DP, making her the most expensive operator in the game alongside Mudrock. Her trust bonus is more offensive compared to her predecessor, giving her 600 HP and 40 Attack.
Trait: Cannot be healed by allies
Penance cannot be directly healed by anyone except for herself. Regen-based healing still works.
Penance, unlike Mudrock, has no self-healing in her kit; if she loses HP she's only getting it back via regen or redeployment. Ideally her Barrier will prevent her from losing HP in the first place so this isn't much of a downside, and she has plenty of HP to spare, but it can occasionally causes problems.
First talent: Guardian of the Law
After deployment, immediately gains a Barrier equal to 50% Max HP; When defeating an enemy, gains a Barrier equal to 10% Max HP (Cannot exceed 300% Max HP)
Effectively, Barrier is bonus HP that does not count towards the normal maximum HP, is lost before "real" HP, and can only be restored by effects that explicitly grant Barrier. It's represented graphically as a lighter blue section on the HP bar, placed between the normal blue of current HP and the empty black of missing HP.
The key to Penance's survivability, Barrier scales off of her enormous max HP to turn her into a enormous HP sponge, capping out at 13,965 Barrier for 18,620 effective HP. Generating Barrier on kills has its pros and cons; on one hand cannon fodder will only improve her bulk, on the other hand she has to worry about kill-stealing and doesn't do as well if 1v1ing elites. That said, if there's so little cannon fodder in a lane you should probably be using a Musha or some other kind of duelist, so it doesn't interfere too much with Penance's intended usage. Kill-stealing also isn't a huge issue, as Penance is built to solo lanes anyway.
Second talent: Wreathed in Thorns
Each time this unit is attacked while under the effect of her own Barrier, deals 50% Attack as Arts damage to the attacker
Previous operators with recoil damage had various shortcomings that left it as a situational thing, be it low recoil damage (that if physical struggled with Defense due to low dph), no damage outside of recoil, or low uptime. Penance, however, has none of these problems: her recoil damage is strong (and as Arts won't care about Defense), her basic attacks still do appreciable damage (and she has her skills on top of them), and her recoil damage is almost always active (denoted by the conspicuous golen aura). Since recoil activates per enemy it's effectively AoE, making handling hordes of cannon fodder and accumulating Barrier that much easier, and letting Penance focus her own attacks on bigger threats. Another advantage is that recoil damage will apply to drones as well, giving Penance potential antiair capabilities. Plus recoil has no range limitation and bypasses Invisibility, making Penance a counter to a variety of annoying enemies.
First skill: Last Word
At m3{m0} Last Word has 0 initial SP, costs 3{4} SP, recovers SP over time, can be Charged, lasts for a single attack, and is automatically activated. It causes the affected attack to deal an additional hit of Arts damage equal to 200%{180%} of Penance's Attack. Charged: The affected attack deals 200%{180%} damage (only applies to the base physical damage) and Stuns the target for 5{3} seconds.
Charged: Can continue recovering SP after reaching the maximum. When SP reaches double the maximum, enter Charged state. Skills have additional effects when activated in Charged state (All SP is consumed whenever skill is activated)
UnCharged, s1 is a simple afk skill that doesn't have much use. The Charged version, on the other hand, is a top-tier crowd control skill--if you can get Penance to cast it. The catch is that due to being auto activation, as long as an eligible target is in range while Penance has filled her first SP bar but not her second she'll cast the much weaker unCharged version. Because of this, the Charged version is normally relegated to opening engagements. The real value of the skill is in its ability to combo with skills that inflict Sleep or Levitate, which render the target invalid and lets Penance Charge her s1 for a potential infinite cc lock. But there aren't many situations where this is both feasible and useful, so s1 is just a footnote to her kit.
Second skill: Stoic Atonement
At m3{m0} Stoic Atonement has 20{14} initial SP, costs 30{34} SP, recovers SP over time, lasts 20 seconds, and is manually activated. Penance stops attacking enemies, gains 60%{50%} Sanctuary, increases Barrier gain from talent 1 by 100%{80%}, and deals 140%{110%} Arts damage to all ground enemies within a
3x3 square centered on her every second (unaffected by ASPD).
Sanctuary: Reduce Physical and Arts damage taken by the stated percentage (Does not stack, strongest effect takes precedence).
The high Sanctuary s2 provides makes Penance ludicrously bulky, acting as a x2.5 multiplier to her effective HP, and helping preserve the extra Barrier she generates during this skill. To illustrate, every kill while this skill active is worth 2,328 eHP, and if she manages to cap her Barrier she'll have a staggering 46,550 eHP! On the offensive side, the effective attack interval reduction and true AoE give it good dps for a melee Arts skill, and her recoil damage is still in effect as well. The 50s rotation is good as well, though having only 40% uptime is mildly disappointing.
Third skill: Trial of Thorns
At m3{m0} Trial of Thorns has 0 initial SP, costs 20{24} SP, recovers SP by getting hit, lasts 30 seconds, and is manually activated. Upon casting the skill Penance instantly gains Barrier equal to 130%{100%} of her max HP (caps at 300% max HP), and for the duration of the skill she gains +400%{+320%} Attack, +0.9s attack interval (giving her a 2.5s interval), and increased Taunt.
The first thing that jumps out in s3's description is the gargantuan +400% Attack, taking a max level Penance to 4,580 Attack. Even with the increased attack interval to reign in her dps somewhat, she still hits like a cannonball, tearing through armor like it's soggy tissue paper and ending the lives of weaker enemies with a single blow. But remember, her recoil damage scales off of her Attack, so with s3 up enemies attacking her are in for 2,290 Arts damage--and thanks to the Taunt, enemies
will be attacking her if they have the opportunity. Trash mobs will vaporize on contact with her, and even most elites and bosses aren't getting away unscathed. S3 also generates a hefty chunk of Barrier, 6,052 HP worth at max level, offering great survivability as well.
S3's rotation deserves special attention; while I'm aware that defensive recovery is often seen as a drawback compared to auto recovery, HG seems to share that view and balances accordingly. Defrec skills typically have low SP costs compared to their power, and Penance's s3 is no exception--20 SP cost for 30s duration is amazing for average skills, let alone one this strong. But I think defrec is often an advantage, at least for block 3 units like Penance; defrec charges
per enemy, and can even charge >1 SP/sec if there are enough enemies. Furthermore, defrec ties into Penance's overall kit: cannon fodders' attacks barely scratch her high Defense while giving her SP, and when they kill themselves via her recoil damage she gains more Barrier than she lost in the first place, making them pure profit.
Penance, Mudrock, and the Missing 6*
How Penance compares to Mudrock is a common question, and while I don't plan to go into much depth on the topic, I will give some info. The biggest difference, imo, is that Mudrock is more defensive while Penance is more offensive. Mudrock's damage output is mostly propped up by her AoE and her bulk allowing her to stall many enemies indefinitely; if you ever have Mudrock 1v1ing a bulky enemy you'll be waiting a long time. Penance, on the other hand, can use s3 to demolish a single enemy, but her Barrier doesn't naturally regenerate like Mudrock's Shields, and she doesn't fare nearly as well against slow but hard hits. Mudrock being easier to use is a point that gets brought up, but imo most of that is simply the difference between Mudrock s2's autoactivation and Penance s2/s3's manual activation. You do have to pay more attention when positioning Penance so she gets enough fodder and doesn't have to worry about kill-stealing, but with a 36 DP cost she's typically not getting deployed until you've gotten a general idea of what lanes will have fodder, and in exchange for not being as much of a team player Penance has a higher ceiling on her solo performance. In conclusion, the answer is simply that they're different, and both are strong enough to be worthwhile. That said, I do think that comparing Penance to Mudrock just because they're both 6* Juggernauts is approaching Penance from the wrong angle.
Let's change the subject, and talk about Arts Protectors. The first Arts Protector, Dur-nar, released ~3.5 years ago at the time this guide was written, and to my great sorrow there's
still no 6\ Arts Protector (only Sentinel Protectors have gone longer with no 6*). Penance may be a Juggernaut but both s2 and her recoil provide a substantial Arts damage output, while s3's sheer dph lets her tear through Defense similar to Arts. Thus, Penance is the closest thing there is to the long awaited 6* Arts Protector. Most melee units with substantial Arts damage either only block 1 (like Arts Guards) or are squishy (like Broca); apart from Arts Protectors and Penance the only units who don't compromise on at least one of those are Lappland, the upcoming
Qiubai, Ling's s3 dragons, and if we count true damage s3 Mon3tr. Even among Arts Protectors, Dur-nar is held back by 4* stats, Asbestos is an attempted jack-of-all-trades who fails at almost all of them (especially damage output), Shalem is powerful but his s2's self-damage compromises his bulk, and Czerny is a weird recoil-centric unit who seems to have forgotten that most enemies who deal Arts damage also have high Res. There's simply very little competition for Penance's role, and what competitors she does have are either clearly inferior, not tanks even if they're not squishy, or cost multiple deploy slots (and have to deal with some drawbacks due to being summons). This gives Penance a lot of value simply because there are so few
viable alternatives for her role, let alone good ones.
Now, how well this section ages will been seen if and when an actual 6* Arts Protector gets released; it's entirely likely that they'd have much more dps than Penance. That said, such an event is still 7+ months away even if said 6* Arts Protector would be announced tomorrow, so Penance still has plenty of time to enjoy her near monopoly. But even when that time comes, it'll only bring her one real competitor who probably won't have as much survivability as Penance. And on top of that, Penance is still one of the few operators fulfilling an even less populated role: melee Arts dps with self-sustain. Indra and Sideroca are the only other units to completely fit the bill, though if you're willing to bend and stretch the description you could also include s2 Utage (Arts is only via her on-deploy s2), Ling's s3 dragons (can't be healed but Ling can resummon them), s3 Mon3tr (true damage), X3 Specter2 (doll has good Arts dps provided Spec2 is dying enough), and s3 X3 Gladiia (s3 has good arts dps on light enemies). And don't forget, Penance is also the premier user of recoil damage, giving her another useful role where none of her few competitors even come close to her.
In short, while Penance is a Juggernaut and a solo laneholder, don't only look at her fromt hat perspective--think of her as an Arts dps as well.
Mastery Choices
Penance masteries are pretty simple, though m3, m6, and m9 are all valid.
S3 is the easy first pick; it's her primary skill and the reduced SP cost, +80% Attack, and extra Barrier are all important.
S1 is a simple choice to make: ignore it unless you have an interest in doing infinite cc locks with it, in which case m3 is mandatory.
S2 is where things are less clear-cut. While it does overlap with s3, the two skills have their own pros and cons, and s2's masteries are important if you plan on using it.
- S2 pros: 3x3 range true AoE, auto recovery gives a consistent rotation, Sanctuary on top of Barrier makes her extremely tanky
- S2 cons: duration is a little short
- S3 pros: enormous physical dph, extremely high recoil damage, defensive recovery can result in very high uptime, generates Barrier without needing kills
- S3 cons: defensive recovery can hurt when there aren't enough enemies to charge off of
As for my personal opinion, I think s2 is worth mastering; while I'm a major advocate for defensive recovery, s2 can be a substantial improvement to Penance's versatility. And as mentioned above, Penance is filling a surprisingly unique role; it's hard to find a substitute for her s2 on other operators, so mastering it gives you options you otherwise wouldn't have. But there's no need to rush to decide, so take your time and see how much you like using her.
Usage
I've often seen Penance regarded as hard to use, but I do not believe this to be the case. Rather, what's going on is that Penance is an operator with very pronounced strengths and weaknesses, so if used properly she'll excel, but if you try to fit a square peg into a round hole then she'll faily miserably. Her actual role is very straightforward: she's a living roadblock, capable of locking down entire lanes.
Trash Flow
The key to using Penance is simply understanding where trash mobs are going; Penance will rarely be overwhelmed by sheer numbers, so you typically just place her at the best chokepoint available. If a lane doesn't have many or any trash mobs then you simply don't use Penance and take an operator focused more on 1v1 instead, or take advantage of one of the synergies listed later to circumvent her weaknesses. Thankfully it's easy to recognize where the cannon fodder will go, since they typically are the first things to start spawning in a map. Don't be afraid to delay Penance's placement until you're sure where you should put her, as there are many other reasons to do so: at 36 DP she costs a lot to begin with, s2 has high initial SP, s3 can't precharge anyway, and having higher aggro lets her activate her recoil damage more often and get more SP for s3.
Boss Killer?
One common misuse of Penance is using her to fight bosses; while she has impressive damage and bulk, s3's total damage isn't quite enough for her to reliably 1v1 bosses, bosses tend to burn Barrier quickly, and bosses usually have multiple phases to stall out s3's duration and attack slowly so s3 will recharge slowly. While there are some exceptions like phase 2 Patriot whose DoT aura continually procs Penance's recoil damage letting her melt him easily, bosses in general play to her weaknesses. Rather, Penance's forte is in using her fast rotations to deal with elites while letting her recoil clean up trash mobs, allowing your other units to focus their attention on other matters such as the boss.
Barrier Maintenance
Another important thing to learn is how to keep Penance's Barrier up, given how key it is to her kit. You should pick this up fairly quickly if you start using here, but here are some specific pointers:
- Don't be stingy with skill activations; it's often worth it to pop s2 or s3 on some trash mobs (or in s3's case with no mobs around) just for the extra Barrier gain. Their fast rotation often lets her get them ready again before anything bigger comes, and even if it doesn't the extra Barrier often lets her stall longer to get the skills back up again anyway. This isn't always the case as sometimes she does need to save her skills for the perfect moment, but getting used to using them more frequently will go a long way towards keeping Penance going.
- On the other hand, if Penance has capped out her Barrier don't rush to activate s3 but instead let her take a few hits first so that the instant 130% Barrier doesn't go to waste.
- While Penance is vulnerable to kill-stealing, it's possible to pair her with operators that minimize this risk, letting her have her cake and eat it too. Most notably, operators with skills that temporarily extend their range can be placed so that they can only target enemies Penance is attacking during their uptime, preventing killstealing during downtime. Operators who don't attack at all when their skills are inactive work on a similar principle, as do fast/medium redeploys, providing damage only when it's desired. In a broader sense any operator with weak basic attacks but stronger burst dps can also be used like this. As long as you apply a little caution there are plenty of operators who can safely assist Penance.
SSS
SSS is a gamemode almost tailor-made for Penance, offering lots of trash mobs that typicially funnel into 1-2 chokepoints. And with her s3 already having such high dph she doesn't need to stack Attack just to overcome Defense, giving her a lot of freedom in which buffs you stack. For example, the classic Vanguard A lets her charge even during downtime, Defender A's +1 block lets her stack up even more mobs, and Guard B provides the overall highest dps increase. Or if you want to try something silly, a full Vanguard stack will let Penance always Charge her s1 for chain Stuns and a high damage too.
Synergies
While Penance would rather other operators stay in their own lanes for the most part she does still have some synergies, and most of them are strong ones at that. If you have any of the operators listed below it's well worth considering if there's some way for you to fit them into your team when using Penance (or vice-versa).
SP Batteries
Penance's s3 has a low SP cost and high power but defensive recovery can lead to difficulty charging it, making her a great candidate for use with SP batteries. While many SP batteries don't work well with her if at all, being defensive recovery does unlcok three great ones that auto recovery can't use, and there's another great one that has special synergy with her.
Blemishine's talent causes defrec skills to recover 1 SP when attacking; with Penance's 1.6s interval that's an average 0.625 SP/sec, charging s3 in 32s on its own. And that's not counting the base defensive recovery SP gain, which will charge s3 even faster in practice. This is especially useful for improving s3's performance against slow-attacking but hard-hitting elites, which normally give it trouble. The drawback is that this still requires that Penance have enemies to fight, so during breaks between waves Penance is still stuck at 0 SP/sec. Even so, Blemi has a transformative effect on Penance, and Penance may well be the operator who benefits most from Blemi. And given that Blemi's plenty good on her own merits, using her to charge Penance doesn't require much sacrifice.
Stainless
Stainless s3 provides deployable turrets that can be attacked, thereby triggering Blemishine's SP battery, ensuring that Penance s3 will always have a 32s cooldown at worst. Stainless can also directly act as an SP battery with s2, but in that capacity he's not as good as Penance's other options.
Ch'en1
Ch'en1 with her X2+ module causes offrec and defrec skills to recover 1 SP every 3 seconds, an average 0.33 SP/sec, charging s3 in 60s on its own. While Ch'en1's SP battery is only around half the strength of Blemi's, it has the advantage of working regardless of whether there are enemies available, letting Penance keep charging during breaks between waves. While this isn't quite as impactful as Blemi's it's still very noticeable, and if you wanted you could always use both, as Blemi also benefits from Ch'en1's SP battery. With X3 Ch'en1 is a much more capable operator than she once was, and Il Siracusano finally allows you to use her without having to kick Ch'en2 out of the squad.
Aak
Aak s3 attacks an operator 15 times for 500 physical damage, and if the target survives both they and Aak will be buffed. Penance's Defense means Aak only does 375 total damage, and all those attacks do count towards Defensive recovery, granting Penance 15 SP near instantly (Aak is not affected by Penance's recoil damage). The buff from s3 is +50% Attack and +50 ASPD; while the former is heavily diluted by Penance s3's +400% Attack, the latter is not and provides a good damage boost, though it only lasts for two-thirds of Penance s3's duration. Aak's rotation also lines up fairly well with Penance s3, at 55s--assuming you can get the 5 extra SP from something, Penance s3 will have a consistent 25s cooldown.
Saga
Due to her talent, Saga is incapable of landing the killing blow on an enemy (except via her s2), instead putting them into the Critically Wounded state where they'll die in a single hit, granting 2 SP to whoever finished them off. This is perfect for feeding Penance Barrier, plus Saga's s3 can fund Penance's DP cost and has range extension so Saga can hide behind Penance and continue providing assitance.
Regen
Regen is the
only way to heal Penance so it gets a mention here, though more so as a warning. While it may seem like regen would be extremely helpful, the reality is if Penance is taking so much damage that she'd die without regen then she's spending a long time with no Barrier and her combat performance will suffer due to her second talent being inactive. Thus, regen is a lot less useful than you may think at first glance. It's not entirely useless as it might well be what she needs to wait out s3's cooldown for the renewed Barrier, but it's rarely worth going out of your way for.
Damage Mitigation
Rather, if you want to keep Penance alive focus on preventing/reducing damage she takes, which will let her Barrier last longer and thus indirectly buff her offense along with her defense.
- The best operator in this category is [Skadi2](v), who conveniently provides not only +Defense but also regen, and she also buffs Attack to boot. Penance s3's +400% Attack will heavily dilute this, but s2's 140% attack scale will multiply it.
- Quercus is extremly effective due to mechanical interactions. She provides Sanctuary as long as an operator in her range is above 70% HP--and with Barrier shielding her actual HP, on Penance it's extremely easy to meet this condition. It will be overwritten by s2's stronger Sanctuary, but is still helpful during s2's downtime or for s3. Penance being unhealable means Quercus can't use s2 as an SP battery for her, but also means Penance won't steal SP if you have someone else for Quercus to SP battery.
- Shamare is another useful partner, as her -50% Attack debuff combined with Penance's naturally high Defense greatly reduces incoming Arts damage and drastically reduces incoming physical damage. Shamare has both an excellent rotation and can reach anywhere there's a deployable tile thanks to her doll, making her easy to use as well.
- Aak is back, this time with s2. S2 attacks an ally like s3 and thus works as an SP battery for Penance s3, but provides +80% Defense and HP as the buff. The latter is especially interesting due to a quirk of how Barrier works: while current HP scales in real time based on changes to max HP, Barrier only cares about HP at the instant it is gained. Using Penance s3 while Aak s2 is active thus provides 80% extra Barrier, and the 300% cap will be based on that 80% higher max HP as well. When Aak s2 ends Barrier in excess of the normal cap will not be lost, but Penance will be unable to gain any more Barrier until she's below the normal cap once more. With a 30s duration and cooldown, Aak s2 can cover the entire duration of Penance s3, but the cooldown will be slightly longer.
Rosa
Rosa is one of many operators who are less likely to steal Penance's kills, but I decided to give her some special attention due to how well her mechanics work with Penance. As a Besieger she naturally prioritizes the heaviest enemy in range, which normally means she prioritizes the enemies that are a net Barrier loss over the ones that are a net Barrier profit. Furthermore, she ignores 60% of the Defense of weight 3+ enemies and her upcoming module will ~double her dps against them; this makes her very good at taking down those elites, but even when she runs out her dps against the trash mobs will be lackluster, giving Penance the chance to kill them herself.
Ebenholz
While I haven't tested this combo personally, much like Rosa Ebenholz is geared to fight elite enemies, and thus tends to leave mobs for Penance. The catch is that his "filter" is reliant on skill uptime, and when he does attack trash mobs he tends to ohko them, making him very map-reliant to pair with Penance.
Sleep/Levitate
As mentioned earlier, combining Penance with operators that inflict these status effects can result in an infinite cc lock on an enemy, but this generally requires 3+ operators total. The most notable combo is with Erato s1 and a source of SP such as Ptilopsis's talent, which will produce an afk cc lock. This is a very low investment combo as well: Erato only needs s1r7 which can be achieved at e1 1, and Ptilopsis's e1 talent is sufficient SP generation, so only Penance needs e2 and mastery.
Base Skills
At e0 Penance's base skill is Law and Order, a Office skill. Law and Order provides +50% HR contacting speed but increases morale consumed per hour by 0.5.
At e2 Penance gains a second base skill, Fellow Travelers, a Dorm skill. Fellow Travelers restores 0.15 morale per hour to all Operators in that Dorm, and an additional 0.05 morale per hour for every recruitment slot beyond the original two. (Only the strongest stacked effect of this type takes place)
Penance has strongest Office skill even from e0, but with the drawback that she can only work a single 12 hour shift. Her e2 skill is a standard morale recovery skill, but it's a freebie on an operator who'll be spending a lot of time in the Dorms anyway. As a reminder, you shouldn't upgrade the Office so this skill should only provide 0.15 morale/hour rather than 0.25.
Closing
This guide ended up being shorter than I expected, since at the end of the day using Penance isn't all that complex if you acknowledge her limitations. Even so, if you have any questions ask away as I may have left something out unintentionally. Next up I plan to do a guide for
Reed2 sometime during her banner, and maybe a miniguide/PSA on post-module Rosa since she hasn't been getting nearly enough hype. As always, here's a link to the
Operator Guide Repository maintained by
u/LastChancellor, also available in the subreddit's sidebar.
In case you'd like to see Penance in action for yourself, here are some videos (possible spoilers ahead). These are generally showing her performance in extreme scenarios and at max level, but they should give you an idea of what her upper limit is like.

Just wondering how many people want to part with over $140 a ticket to watch this possible debacle? A-reserve tickets in the Brewongle or parts of the Trumper stands are as much as a bit over $140. Even Brewongle concourse is $80 to sit in the sun half the day (I know from experience). Seating in front of the Trumper is still $113 (can't recall if that's under cover). There are plenty of O'Reilly/Messenger concourse seats (blazing sun all day if it doesn't rain) for $30 so that's reasonable but I think whoever thinks up the pricing hasn't realised this isn't an Ashes or BGT Test. I'm still going but have found reasonable pricing in one stand so am prepared for $10 shitty Great Northern plastic cup beers once again. I'll assume day 1 will be about 3/4 full with it lucky to be half full on days after that. But I may be wrong.

2023.06.02 01:07 etbiludecalcinha [Creepypasta] Nunca Assista O Vídeo Deletado Do Andrezitos
o título do vídeo era: "Eu Nunca Deveria Ter Feito Isso, Me Desculpem....."

In this article, we will provide you with all the essential information on the film's release date and how to watch it online from any country, ensuring you don't miss out on this exciting cinematic experience.
This is especially true for many superhero films, which are often tied directly to specific streaming services. Disney+ and HBO Max - now rebranded as MAX - often house the new streaming releases for the MCU and DCU respectively, usually releasing anywhere between 1–3 months after theatrical release. However, with a film like Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the situation is slightly different given Sony's lack of a dedicated streaming service, here's where to watch and stream Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse online.
When Is the Release Date for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse?
When Is the Release Date for Spider-Man: Across thMiles, Gwen, Peter, and several dozen other Spider-people will be swinging into action when Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse premieres on Friday, June 2nd, 2023. This almost undoubtedly gives Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Flash a run for their money as the biggest superhero movie event of the Summer. Spider-Verse?
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse had its world premiere at the Regency Village Theatre on May 30, 2023, and is scheduled for theatrical release in the United States on June 2, delayed from an initial October 2022 date because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Where To Watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Online:
As of now, the only way to watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is to head out to a movie theater when it premieres on June 2, 2023. You can find a local showing on Fandango.
Otherwise, you’ll just have to wait for it to become available to rent or purchase on digital platforms like Amazon, Vudu, YouTube or Apple, or become available to stream on Netflix.
How to Watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
There's been no official announcement regarding Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's streaming release date, though we know it will eventually be released on Netflix, rather than Disney+ or HBO Max.
In terms of which of the streaming giants Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be released on, Netflix will house the film upon its streaming debut. While again, Sony does not have its own dedicated streaming service, a deal was struck in 2021 between the studio and Netflix. The deal, stating that Netflix would stream Sony's films after theatrical release, was penned for 5 years meaning Across the Spider-Verse is part of the arrangement.
While Sony's Spider-Man content is also streaming on Disney+, due to the collaborations between Sony and Marvel Studios in recent years, Across the Spider-Verse will be a Netflix release. While the deal struck between Marvel Studios and Sony may extend to this film, Disney+ is only allowed to begin streaming Sony's Spider-Man releases upon their release on Netflix. As a result, Netflix will be the first streaming service that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be available on after its theatrical release.
Because it’s airing on FX, you can of course fire up Into the Spider-Verse via FX Now. But in addition, the animated flick is streaming on both fubo (which offers a free trial and has cord-cutting plans starting at $74.99/month; sign up here) and DirecTV (which also offers a free trial and has cord-cutting plans starting at $64.99/month.
Is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in Theaters?
Not only was Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse the subject of rave reviews, but it also pulled in some gargantuan levels of cash at the international box office, with a final tally that quadrupled the film's ninety-million dollar budget. With incredible success like that, it's only natural that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse would also be taking advantage of a theatrical release. That is the case, as the upcoming film will be exclusively available in theaters when it premieres on June 2nd, 2023.
When Will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Be on Streaming?
The Spider-Man franchise is in a pretty interesting place regarding streaming. The various films of Sony's franchise have typically been scattered across multiple services. That said, following a historic deal between Sony and Disney, the many stories of Peter Parker and beyond are now available on Disney+. This includes the original Sam Raimi trilogy, the first Amazing Spider-Man film, and, starting mid-May, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Venom. Notably absent from the Disney-streaming platform so far are The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Morbius, and most significant of all, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Some of the films are not currently available on the service because Sony has pre-existing partnerships with Starz, as that's where most of the absent films are available to stream. That is except for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which is instead only streaming on Fubo TV and FX Now.
If Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse comes to Disney+ before Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's theatrical run concludes, that would make the House of Mouse's service a likely contender for a streaming release. However, Sony has also historically partnered with Netflix for streaming releases. Up until recently, that's where Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was available to stream, and Sony still brings their other big releases to the service, like Bullet Train and The Woman King.
When will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse be streaming on Netflix?
Sony Animation’s big new Spider-Man movie is about to hit theaters and will be headed to Netflix (at least in the United States) later this year. For a prediction as to when and a bit more about the new movie, here’s what you need to know.
As we covered in 2021, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be headed to Netflix as the service gets both Sony’s animation and live-action content via a first window deal struck in April 2021.
The deal stipulates that all Sony theatrical movies come to Netflix in the first window, which at a minimum, is 120 days after its theatrical release date. If it arrives exactly 120 days after, it’ll be streaming from September 30th, 2023.
With that said, given how big this movie is, we may see it release a few weeks after the fact. Either way, we expect the movie to be available between late September and November 2023.
Will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Be Streaming On Netflix?
Yes, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is coming to Netflix approximately in December 2023.
In 2021, Sony and Netflix signed a five-year deal that gave the latter exclusive first-pay-window U.S. streaming rights for Sony Pictures titles after their theatrical and home entertainment windows. Fans can expect to watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on Netflix six months after the film’s theatrical release, thus in December 2023. The date seems reasonable considering that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse dropped on Netflix on June 26, 2019, six months after its U.S. release on December 14, 2018. The pay-one window usually begins about nine months after a film’s theatrical release, but it might start earlier in particular cases.
Will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Be On HBO Max?
No, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will not be on HBO Max since it’s not a Universal Pictures movie. Last year, the company released its films in theaters and on the streamer on the same day. However, they now allow a 45-day window between the theatrical release and the streaming release.
Will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Be Streaming On Disney+?
Yes, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is also coming to Disney Plus approximately in 2025.
Once the pay-one window runs its time and Netflix’s exclusive rights expire, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be available on Disney Plus. The pay-one window might last as long as 18 months, which means it will be a while before Disney Plus subscribers can watch the much-anticipated sequel. Unlike in other countries, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse isn’t yet available on the Disney-owned streamer in the U.S.
American fans will have to wait until 2024 to watch Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and at least until 2025 for its sequel. We will update this post once there is an official Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Disney Plus release date.
Is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Available On Hulu?
Viewers are saying that they want to view the new Marvel's animation movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on Hulu. Unfortunately, this is not possible since Hulu currently does not offer any of the free episodes of this series streaming at this time. It will be exclusive to the MTV channel, which you get by subscribing to cable or satellite TV services. You will not be able to watch it on Hulu or any other free streaming service.
How to Watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Online For Free?
Most Viewed, Most Favorite, Top Rating, Top IMDb movies online. Here we can download and watch 123movies movies offline. 123Movies website is the best alternative to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023) free online. We will recommend 123Movies is the best Solarmovie alternatives.
There are a few ways to watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse online in the U.S. You can use a streaming service such as Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime Video. You can also rent or buy the movie on iTunes or Google Play. You can also watch it on-demand or on a streaming app available on your TV or streaming device if you have cable.
When Will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Be on DVD and Blu-ray?
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will likely be coming to DVD and Blu-ray around the same time as the streaming release. With theatrical films, on average, coming to streaming sooner than ever (usually ninety days after theatrical release), we'll likely see Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse get a DVD, and Blu-ray release no later than Fall 2023.

What is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse About?
Returning with many of your favorite characters, including Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman, Peter B. ParkeSpider-Man, and of course Miles Morales as our primary Spider-Man, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is set one year after the events of the previous film. Miles (Shameik Moore) is coming into his own as Spider-Man when he is unexpectedly approached by Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld) with an extraordinary opportunity. Does Miles want to help a team of Spider-People, led by Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac) protect the multiverse from the terrifying threat of a man known as The Spot (Jason Schwartzman)?
Obviously, Miles is going to say yes, setting him up for an adventure that will expand this movie’s concept of the multiverse in every possible way. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse promises tons of new characters and worlds, without losing sight of what people have come to love about this particular Spider-franchise.
Miles Morales has become a massively popular Spider-Man, and you can be certain he’ll be at the center of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’s chaotic blend of action, comedy, comic book aesthetics, and large-scale science fiction. It seems more likely than not that Across the Spider-Verse will be the biggest animated release of 2023.

Nomeadamente: “Tenho a certeza disto?

2023.06.01 22:31 shatteredandroid 12v power on button
| So, I saw a post here, I’ve already had this done but decided to share my experience with the “always on” 12v plug. I found this nifty 12v extension thing at O’Reillys. I cut the 12v male connector off the end and wired it into the “always on” / hot wires that are already on the center piece. Now I have 4 12v power plugs that can be turned on individually with the push of a button. I use 1 for extra interior LEDs, 1 for a 150W power inverter, and the other to a sneaky wireless charger that’s built into my phone mount. The best part is, don’t have to have the key on or engine running. Obviously don’t leave anything on or it’ll kill your battery but so far I haven’t had any issues as far as draining my battery. submitted by shatteredandroid to fordranger [link] [comments] |
2023.06.01 22:16 IndigoWolf4711 ANALYSIS: In Honour of Dancing With the Stars' 18th Birthday, Here is Season 1, Episode 1, Along with some Information and some of my Thoughts! ✨

Judges: Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli
Couples:

- Kelly Monaco and Alec Mazo
- Trista Sutter and Louis van Amstel
Each couple performed either the cha-cha-cha or the waltz.
Network: ABC
Viewers: 13.48 Million
My Thoughts: This was well and truly the beginning of a phenomenon! The show itself was the United States' iteration of the franchise's popular United Kingdom predecessor, Strictly Come Dancing. The overall concept was fairly similar, with Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli, both judges on the UK version, taking part as judges alongside dancer and television-personality Carrie Ann Inaba. Tom Bergeron and Lisa Canning co-hosted the season, the latter of whom only served as co-host for the first season.
The professional cast included:
- Ashly DelGrosso-Costa (who served as a pro in seasons 1-3 and 10)
- Charlotte Jørgensen (who served as a pro in season 1 only)
- Alec Mazo (who served as a pro in seasons 1, 4-5, 7 and 9)
- Jonathan Roberts (who served as a pro in seasons 1-2, 4-6 and 8-9)
- Edyta Śliwińska (who served as a pro in seasons 1-10 and 22)
- Louis van Amstel (who served as a pro in seasons 1-3, 6, 9-12, 15, 21 and 31)
The first batch of celebrities featured heavyweight boxer
Evander Holyfield, supermodel
Rachel Hunter, television actor and game-show host
John O'Hurley,
New Kids on the Block singer
Joey McIntyre,
General Hospital actress
Kelly Monaco, and The Bachelorette star
Trista Sutter.
Kelly Monaco was the only season 1 cast member to return for the All-Stars season (15), in which she would be partnered with Valentin Chmerkovskiy and reach third place. One aspect of this season that is particularly interesting is that there were no theme weeks as such. Each week was strictly ballroom dancing, with the majority of weeks featuring two styles (a Ballroom and a Latin) each designated to the males and females, rotating as the weeks went on. For example, in episode 1 which I have shared above, the men danced a Latin number (cha-cha-cha) and the women, a ballroom number (the waltz). The following week this would swap-the men dancing a ballroom number (quickstep) and the women dancing a Latin (rumba). Notice this format is very much different now. Since season 30, with the exception of the premiere, semi-finals and season finale, we have constant theme weeks, and the designated styles are a thing of the past-look at the recent season 31-on the premiere, 7/16 stars danced a cha-cha-cha. And on Bond Night-8/14 couples were assigned a rumba. It is evidently very different to the ways of the past! I for one don't mind theme weeks, but generally prefer them to be broad (90s Night/Halloween Night/Most Memorable Year come to mind). I don't necessarily mind if we have one-to-many dances on a certain night as long as each celebrity at least gets to try an equal amount of ballroom and Latin prior to being eliminated (Melanie C is a celebrity I feel was done quite dirty with this, as she had 4 ballroom dances and only 1 Latin prior to her elimination). I'd like to hear your thoughts on this, Aspects like Melanie C's often do make me miss the old system.
Some similarities between Season 1 and today however include the general format and scoring (though in all-stars/season 15, half-points were introduced for that one season, something I'd love to see brought back!). Additionally, much of the cast has remained prominent over the years. Carrie Ann, Len and Bruno have remained as judges (Len missed two seasons) till season 31, in which Len announced it would be his last (prior to his unfortunate passing 💔). Interestingly enough, Carrie Ann and Bruno have NEVER missed a show-which is quite impressive if you ask me! Tom Bergeron was also a prominent cast-member between seasons 1-28, prior to his dismissal, in which he only missed one show in Season 21 to be with his ailing father (Alfonso Ribeiro filled in for him). Lisa Canning on the other hand only remained as co-host for season 1, in season 2, she was replaced by Samantha Harris (Seasons 2-9), then Brooke Burke (Seasons 10-17) and Erin Andrews (Seasons 18-28) before the huge shakeup of Tyra Banks joining as sole-host, replacing both Bergeron and Andrews. Of the professional cast, Jørgensen only appeared in the first season. Coincidentally, she is the only professional dancer that Cheryl Burke did not work with during her time on the show. Ashly, Jonathan, Alec and Edyta appeared fairly prominently throughout the first 10 seasons, with Edyta making a surprise return to season 22 after a 12-season hiatus (she would be partnered with journalist Geraldo Riviera and they would be the first to be eliminated). Louis continued to appear fairly consistently till season 15 until he was cut prior to the 16th season, along with Anna Trebunskaya and Chelsie Hightower to pave way for Gleb Savchenko, Sharna Burgess and Lindsay Arnold respectively. Since then, Louis has also made 2 surprise returns. In season 21 he was requested by celebrity chef Paula Deen. In the most recent season 31, he was requested by
Charlie's Angels star Cheryl Ladd. I for one particularly enjoyed seeing him back this year! Would you like to see him on again this year? I know I would!
A key difference however to the original seasons and those of today are the elimination process. In the past, the couple with the least amount of judges scores and viewer votes was automatically eliminated. Since Season 28 however, the judges have had the ability to vote to save a couple in the bottom two. I personally prefer the judges' save system better!
SPOILER FOR SEASON 1: One more interesting aspect to the original season is that whilst Kelly Monaco and Alec Mazo were victorious in winning the Mirrorball Trophy, this win was met with a fairly large amount of controversy as Monaco's scores ere not as high as the runner up, O'Hurley's. As a result of this, a special rematch was held between Kelly and Alec and John and Charlotte in which the winner's chosen charity would be donated to. O'Hurley and Jørgensen won this time, however these results did not affect the official season's results (Monaco and Mazo as the official champions). Across all the winners in Dancing With the Stars' 31 seasons, Kelly Monaco holds the lowest average score. Overall, It is fair to say there have been several key changes throughout the years that compare season 1 and our most recent seasons. Season 1 was certainly more the form of a traditional ballroom-dancing competition! However it is fair to say, if it weren't for this ground-breaking season, and its premiere which was watched by 13.38 million viewers 18 years ago to this day, we wouldn't have the phenomenon that we do!
I'd love to hear your thoughts on this season and comparisons to today!
I quite enjoyed writing this analysis!
For those of you who didn't see season 1, I hope this gave you some sort of insight!
I'll hopefully do another one soon, perhaps analysing a more recent season!
I hope you enjoyed this!
And Happy 18th Birthday DWTS! 🥳✨ submitted by

2023.06.01 21:49 juusnowg Una pesadilla con Caprimint
A ver...

2023.06.01 19:51 cuzimori The Community Tier List Review and Event CG Archive for Leo, Yingel, and Anatoli are Now Live!
Hello Reddit!
This is — for a change of pace — Cuzi from Team BethelFrankel, here to tell you that the ratings for Leo, Yingel, and Anatoli are now live on the
Community Tier List! I’m sorry this took as long as it did. Fourmana was busy, the website was getting updated, and I was playing Honkai Star Rail. No excuses, just a sorry. As always, a “should you pull” section, followed by some
big updates in preparation for the upcoming anniversary.
Should You Pull…
Leo - S-/S+ - Leo’s ceiling is nuts. In terms of raw damage, his
damage potential is one of — if not the — highest in Forest. This is an impressive feat, considering that Forest is an element with beasts such as Jeriah, Paloma and Areia. His main issue is a
large portion of this damage is gated behind requiring both Refinements and team support. This makes him a weird unit to rate; his R0 baseline performance undercuts Forest’s contested S-tier, with his damage scaling up to SS-tier levels the more e-tiles you feed him. The Goldie teams that could let him reach this potential, however, have hotly contested team slots. Jeriah, Naroxel, and Paloma all provide utility alongside their damage that makes them much more indispensable, leaving Leo and Gabriel to duke it out for the last slot in meta e-tile teams. Still, the fact he’s a top contender for that slot at all as a raw damage dealer speaks to his potential. He also fits decently well on other e-tile teams, such as those featuring Minos, Hiiro and Siobhan.
With Leo, you’ll usually want to use his second Active once per Burst turn before dumping all his stacks into it on the final Burst turn. The gimmicks on his first Active are largely flavor text: the second and third effects are difficult to use outside longer stages, while the first effect is only useful in mobbing. All this said, there are a lot of minor optimizations you can do with him. Firstly, his second active is only useful if you can ensure around at least 3-4 Normals including diagonals; saving the stacks to benefit from his Equipment’s Chain Combo buffs may be worthwhile if this is not the case. Second, the CD reduction on his first Active from getting 19 stacks only applies on cast; if you have enough enhanced tiles, saving his first Active to cast during his AT can let you gain maximum value from it. This room for minmaxing offers Leo some appreciated flexibility, cementing him as an excellent option on teams that can feed his appetite for e-tiles.
TL;DR: Pull if you want him and can offer the appropriate support, otherwise probably skip. Meta e-tile Forest has stiff competition for slots, but he’s as good an option as any to round it out after you have the core setup. Outside of e-tile teams, he’s usable but not great.
Yingel - A-/S at BT3 - Yingel is another addition to the “weird converters” we’ve been seeing over the past few patches, but this time placing heavy emphasis on 1x1 content.
We did the math on her damage output and her damage leaves much to be desired, even for a sniper. Yingel’s kit is based around using special high-power Normals to stack a powerful defense ignoring buff. This sounds great in theory, but Yingel’s inability to normal attack in between her special Normals severely neuters her; it more or less means her Normal attack damage is the same as most other units, and makes her defense ignore stacking is too slow for it to ever realize its full potential.
Her conversion is similarly restrictive. 5 select tiles on a 2 CD is actually pretty incredible; the issue is her cross-shaped conversion pattern makes it incredibly janky to properly use and get contact tiles with outside of 1x1 content. Her conversion can be cloned by Axelia, but the high cloning cost and Axelia's other cloning synergies with units like Irridon limit its value.
Ultimately, Yingel is a combination of almost all the most powerful effects in all of Alchemy Stars nerfed in every way. This has its place — she’s a pretty good captain for 1x1 content, and better than most of Thunder’s bog-standard snipers even at BT0. You just won’t feel good using her over Luke, Reinhardt or R3 Wrath.
TL;DR: Probably Avoid. While Yingel certainly isn’t bad at BT3, there are significantly better options to go for at this level of investment. With the 2nd Anniversary being the next event, you don’t want to regret pulling on someone that may potentially collect dust on your account.
Anatoli - A - Anatoli is the welfare character for this patch and more or less a Forest Brock, offering niche but potentially valuable Aggro support and decent personal damage for mobbing. His active can also be used as a janky TP and gap closer if only selecting one target, which is… interesting, at the very least, and occasionally useful. However, his EQ is noticeably worse and the element he’s in has much less synergies for him. Forest also is home to some of the best mobbers in the game in Lenore, Migard, and Barton:DB, who are also just overall better units whose value doesn’t nosedive outside their niche. For a welfare, though, Anatoli is admirably effective at what he does — he’s a good investment if you don’t have one of Forest’s myriad mobbers, and will still see use in secondary or tertiary teams in content like Pandora’s even once you do.
Finally, his art and animations are top-tier — he’ll be a staple for those invested in the aesthetics metagame.
TL;DR: Build if you want. He’s very niche, but excellent at it — whether that’s important to you depends on your own account.
Tier List Updates
We’ve made some pretty big changes to the tier list, but none of them should be much of a surprise — it’s more or less just following through on things we had announced in the last update. The most important of these is we have new ratings now! The
(N) rating has been added to units whose value dramatically improves in niche situations, while the
(T) rating denotes units whose potential is locked behind requiring specific team setups.
Some background on this — the team is forever mentally scarred by Goldie, and I could honestly end the explanation here, refuse to elaborate, and leave. While that is partly a joke, Goldie is the unit that prompted us to think about how we tier things. Goldie is honestly pretty terrible outside dedicated e-tile teams that need very specific units, but said e-tile teams offer some of the best damage in the game. This unit design is a consequence of how the game has evolved — since the game has covered its bases for generalist units like Sinsa and Azure, characters’ roles have become much more specific. The tier list, formulated in the days of yore, couldn’t really account for that. We’re hoping these new ratings fix that.
This isn’t a perfect solution; the most glaring problem is how much it increases clutter in a tier list which already suffered from it. This forces us to be rather conservative about how we give these ratings, and we’ve tried to limit it as much as possible to units where the improvement is fairly drastic or units who are the linchpin of entire strategies. That said, if you feel we’ve missed someone we’re happy to get feedback about it! We’re far from perfect, and constructive criticism is how we can improve.
Finally, we’ve gotten rid of class ratings and nothing of value was really lost. They did more harm than good, and we’ve replaced them with extremely brief descriptions of what the unit actually does. So all that said… let’s delve into the units that got changed!
Goldie - SS(T) (is S-) – Behold, the woman behind the slaughter. Dedicated e-tile teams are incredible, and we’re letting Goldie eat the SS rating for almost all the units that dramatically improve due to it given the setup revolves around her.
Lilica - SS(T) (is S+) – Similar to Goldie, Lilica is taking the SS tiering for all shield synergies because they’re ultimately centered around her. Lilica shield teams offer some of the highest damage in Fire and are surprisingly strong in Water too.
Minos - SS(T) (is S) — Minos already had a note marking him as SS in specific teams, so we’re just adjusting that to fit into the new system. Unlike a lot of other e-tile units he doesn’t depend on Goldie to get the number of e-tiles he needs to shine, so we’re marking him separately.
Tessa - S+(T) (is S-) – Tessa’s interaction with low-CD units is pretty potent. The most notable of these is Axelia + MBT Roy and to a lesser extent Leyn, who push her damage above a good chunk of Thunder’s long list of detonators.
Lucoa - S(T) (is A) — Lucoa’s buff is one of a kind and instrumental in making a lot of Active-based teams work.
May - A(T) (is C+) — May is pretty important for certain Giles nuke setups and serves as the only other good defensive option on Lenore+Jeno setups. That said, neither setup entirely revolves around her which limits her overall tiering.
Axelia - S+(T) (is S) — Axelia’s ability to copy summons gives a lot of notable synergies even outside the aforementioned MBT Roy and Tessa. Of particular note is Reinhardt and Irridon, and her presence on whale Thunder teams is a testament of how much she improves its playability.
Brock - S(N) (is A-) — Brock is absolutely incredible in mobbing; his ability to aggro mob can trivialize waves and his Attack buff in these stages is very potent. The cherry on top is his importance on Giles nuke setups.
Nails - S(N) (is A-) — Nails’ Bleed application is only really contested by Pasolo, and he’s almost
required on certain Elysium floors while also being strong on DoT weak enemies outside of that.
Chandra - A-(N) (is C+) — Chandra is amazing for Nightium farming, and the long-term value this provides is actually quite notable.
Giles - SS(N) (is S+) — Updated
calcs show that Giles’ damage on shorter fights actually outdoes most of Fire’s S-tier even on 2x2; his ability to trivialize some stages by nuking them combined with his almost unrivaled 1x1 performance puts him at SS in the right situations.
Odi - S+(N) (is S-) — Odi has unrivaled Poison application, allowing her to clear some stages that even meta teams can struggle on.
Noah BT2 - S-(N) (is A-) — Noah’s Lilica synergies paired with the importance of her shield against certain specific damage checks gives her some valuable use cases, even if she usually is outdone by Philyshy.
Raphael - A(N) at BT0 (is B-), S+(N) at BT3 (is S-) — Raphael’s oddball mix of resets, conversion, damage and healing lets her function in a way no other unit really can, and makes certain endgame content like BoredomShatterblast significantly easier.
Erica - A(N) (is B) — Erica is the only decent reset option in Thunder, so your hands are often tied on certain stages. Still, her Detonator chain and team buff means she’s not deadweight.
Vivian MBT - A+(N) (is B-) — MBT Vivian’s raw conversion value makes her pretty powerful on the right stages. There is nothing quite like letting her paint boards yellow.
Keating - B+(N) (is C+) — Brock and Anatoli have shown that aggro is actually extremely valuable when the situation calls for it. However, Keating is hampered by their brutal cooldown combined with a lack of pre-emptive.
Zhong Xu - S(N) (is A+) — Zhong Xu was extremely disappointing for a unit that was meant to be Fire’s long-awaited select tile converter. That said, his push-pull synergies do make him worth using on some stages, especially alongside Charon and Brock.
Jane - A(N) (is C) — Jane’s ranking is almost entirely based on her ability to reliably auto-farm the penultimate Nightium stage with a specific setup. Outside of this, she’s still pretty bad.
MBT Tina - SS(N) — MBT Tina
can be incredible — 4 pseudo-select tiles on 2CD alongside a very janky TP is nothing to scoff at. The issue is all this is contingent on being able to predict enemy movements and plan ahead with her tile placement; this isn’t easy nor reliable, but MBT Tina can even outdo Bethlehem in situations where it’s feasible.
Some Other Tier Shifts
Philishy - S (was S-) – Philyshy was initially downshifted during an era of content involving very high DPR checks. Abyss and Pandora’s Box did a lot to change this, and both game modes seem tailored to reward Philyshy’s absurd healing output and additional utility through her global teleport. She’s more than worth the $1 you may pay for her; while you still aren’t going to use her in most content that has a DPS check, her value is nigh-unparalleled outside of it.
MBT Frostfire - S- (was A+) – Like Philyshy, the higher importance of mobbing makes Frostfire much more valuable — especially given her mobbing capabilities in Fire are only really rivaled by R3 Regina. She’s still extremely reliant on her MBT and is entirely eclipsed by Giles in bossing, but the gap between her and her Old Seal brethren is now far closer than it used to be.
Leona - S- (was A) – Leona is probably the unit that was the most underrated in the tier list for quite some time: her
1x1 and 2x2 numbers are competitive on both fronts with other S tier units. She’s still too reliant on Burn and good conversion to truly be S-tier, but a well-supported Leona can carry you a surprisingly long way.
Barbara A- – Despite her
overall numbers being better with the buff and the refinements, Barbara is still a unit that really doesn’t have much in terms of what she brings to the table. You could even argue her equipment buff being element-locked now makes her arguably worse! While that isn’t exactly true, it does go to show how decidedly underwhelming her improvements have been.
Vice R3 - S- (Was A) — R3 Vice’s performance is actually pretty incredible — her 1x1 performance outdoes most of Water’s other snipers, and her mobbing is potent. Her main issue is the competition she faces in both cases. Vice: KS is your go-to option in 1x1 content, and base Vice can’t be used alongside her; meanwhile, Water mobbing is a tightly contested spot between Azure, Fia, Mu Yuebai, Fleur, and Connolly. Still, she is pretty good on her own merits, especially considering she’s completely free.
Vic — While his overall ranking hasn’t changed, Vic’s description has been touched up. As it turns out, he’s one of if not
the best option for the 5th slot in Water against purely 1x1 content. His performance tanks with summons, he’s a miserable captain, and his 2x2 performance is laughable — but it was pertinent to mention he does have a pretty well-defined use case for those who like him enough to invest in him. In a way it’s fairly in-character for him: even though he’s good at what he does, he’ll probably spend most of his time in your roster on the bench.
New and Future Content
I'd talked a bit about how tier lists are a pretty inherently flawed format earlier. We're doing our best to circumvent this — for all its failings, it
is both straightforward and intuitive. Still, especially as we get closer to Anniversary, the team has found that it might help to branch out in the content we make to help both new and returning players. Recently, you probably saw
Eclogia's beginner and advanced guides. If you haven't, you probably should! They're really well written and you can find them in the
reddit post here.
We also have a lot more in the works.
Trakan is working on an Ultimate Checklist — a super handy tool featuring an Aurorian Tracker, team building customization and even some Cloud Garden tools. Meanwhile,
Ivory is working on a polished Lilica guide — a handy walkthrough to help explain one of Alchemy Stars' most unique and nuanced units. This is just the start, too — hopefully there's a lot more to come in the future.
Event CG Archive
Mechhydra here!
I apologize for not showing up for the last event–I got busy, and as a consequence didn't update the Archive for a while. Regardless, both of the past two events are now live for viewing. Stay tuned for the 2nd anniversary, where I'll be making my own standalone archive post for the first time in a long while!
Event Album Doc Drive Folder Community News
Sometimes I wonder if Fourmana has a secret vendetta against me. Maybe I wronged him in another life to have been stuck with writing this monster of an update. Perhaps my sins have caught up to me, and the gods commanded him to make me write this post in their displeasure. We’ll never know.
Jokes aside, it’s been an amazing time working with the team to push this update out, and I’m glad Four doesn’t have to deal with it when he already has a lot on his plate — he’s already put overtime into this project. As always, our rankings are tentative and we both appreciate and rely on feedback, especially considering this is my first time making a write-up of this length for Alchemy Stars. The tier list is written for the community, and it’s helpful to hear what you want from it!
And with that, I shall lay my metaphorical pen down to rest. Until next time.
Best regards,
Cuzimori
